Ellen Bernagozzi Smith
Ellen Bernagozzi Smith has Bachelor’s in Spanish, a Bachelor’s in Latin American Studies and a Master’s of Science in Secondary Education with an emphasis on language curriculum and development. She studied in Spain and has a passion for languages, travel, and cultures. She has been teaching Spanish since 1994 in both public and private high schools and spent 8 years teaching at the community college level.
Currently, Ellen is in her 10th year of teaching at St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, MD where she is the AP Spanish Language and Culture curriculum author and teacher, director of the SMHS student exchange program with Pamplona, Spain, and chair of the foreign language department. In addition, Ellen is a 2018 nominee for Teacher of the Year for Anne Arundel County.
In July of 2018, Ellen traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to collaborate with the teachers at APACOPE with an emphasis on increasing communication skills and technology use in the English classes. While there, Ellen also helped conduct technology training for all of the APACOPE teachers. Most importantly, she formed personal bonds with her new colleagues in Rwanda and is dedicated to supporting their ongoing growth and success.
